By Ancient Crunch

Vandy Crisps are the first true potato chips you’ll ever taste-- made exactly the way they used to be over a hundred years ago, when this Great American Snack was born.

They are handmade in small batches with only three ingredients: naturally grown potatoes without CIPC*, grass fed beef tallow, and sea salt. They are 100% seed oil and pesticide free.

*CIPC is an herbicide that prevents potatoes from sprouting. It is banned in Europe and has been linked with various health issues including endocrine disruption, but is nearly ubiquitous in US potatoes. Scroll down for more on how our potatoes are grown.

    Strange taste

These left a strange bitter taste in my mouth. I liked them then that bitterness took over. That’s very disappointing because I was hoping these would be the alternative I was looking for.

Dear lord these chips are delicious. If any of you knew just how many chips I eat you’d probably be disgusted but these are a new revelation. Literally the most delicious snack I can’t recommend enough

    Dumb and inaccurate name

Google who invented the potato chip…

“The story of the potato chip's invention is often associated with George Crum, a chef at Moon's Lake House in Saratoga Springs, New York, in 1853. While the origin story involves a picky diner (often incorrectly attributed to Cornelius Vanderbilt) and Crum's accidental creation of thin, crispy fried potatoes, the true origin of the potato chip is debated, with some historians suggesting it may not have been invented in Saratoga at all. “

Just another time an old white guy gets the credit for black person’s invention. But I guess it’s easier to charge 52 dollars for 4 bags chips when you make it Vandy instead of Crum.

But you’d think a company would put more effort into naming the chips. Especially if they are using the “best” ingredients but then you realize they don’t. In fact all this company does is use “expensive” or more expensive ingredients then they think you’ll fall for this scam.

    Kinda gross. Very disappointed.

I was really looking forward to these arriving today. UPS dropped them off less than 10 minutes ago, and I snatched the box off the porch, and immediately opened a bag...of bland, over cooked, variably salted (some are barely and some are way over salted) potato chips, that, setting aside those issues, finding an appropriately cooked and salted specimen, are still gross. Even my dog was uncertain, and I gave her one that was appropriately cooked. She ate it, after turning it over a few times to to sniff, lick, and inspect it.

And since they don't take returns, I'm stuck with $65 worth of disgusting chips. I definitely won't be recommending these to anyone.

    Bland Chips

I was looking forward to trying these since I love the Masa tortilla chips! However, upon opening the 1st Vandy chips bag and trying a chip, I was immediately let down. Almost no flavor in the chips (needs more salt). The texture is similar to a Pringle chip. I'm not happy with the texture or flavor at all! I will definitely not be ordering these ever again. I was really hoping these would be tasteful since it has no seed oils. This was sadly not the case. I'm even considering throwing out the other bags, that's how bland these taste.

A chip for people with taste

Both delicious and seed oil free.

Have your chip and crunch it too.

Natural Potatoes

Almost all potatoes in America are doused in pesticides and sprayed with a gas called CIPC (aka chlorproham), which keeps them "fresh" for longer but is so toxic it's banned in Europe.

Additionally, most potato varieties you can find at the store are not fit for frying. Due to the starch profile, they get brown instead of crispy, which causes the buildup of acrolein and other oxidative chemicals.

Since potatoes that are fit for frying are not commonly grown, it took a long time to find a farmer who could grow the right potatoes, and do so according to our exacting standards of natural farming.

While this batch of potatoes is not certified organic (a costly and time intensive process for small farmers), they are grown in conformance with such methods, and we are working with our farmer to get our potatoes certified by the time autumn comes around.

But they are the same potatoes, same farmer, and same methods-- just not yet certified organic.

Grass Fed Tallow

There are many oils you could make chips with, but only one option stands above the rest: grass fed beef tallow.

We use tallow because it's delicious, non-inflammatory and full of fat soluble vitamins. Traditionally used by the best chefs for 100s of years, it is completely natural and unprocessed.

Surprisingly, it's also far less greasy than any plant oil--no grease-covered knuckles after a bag of Vandy for you.

A Golden Crunch

All this makes for a chip unlike any you've ever eaten-- even if you've had your fair share of the chip section.

Trite as it is, they simply don't make em like they used to. Until now, that is.

About Us

We're the folks behind MASA, the first ever tallow-fried tortilla chip (at least, first in 70+ years).

Since day one, our customers have asked us to make a potato chip in a similar style. Finally, we're proud to be bringing dignity back to this Great American Snack.

We hope you enjoy!
